Quivira is a large-scale painted banner suspended from the gallery ceiling. The painting is named for Quiviria, one of Francisco Vasques De Coronado's Mythical Seven Cities of Gold, which is thought to be present-day Salina, Kansas. The work, made during a summer residency at the Salina Art Center, is a bridge between past work using the geometries of quilts to explore global trade routes and future work which will employ layered patterns to examine the multiple histories of specific sites.
