介绍
Woods breathes new meaning into objects that have outlived their intended purpose as ephemeral collateral meant to inundate the masses and then disappear.
David B. Smith Gallery is proud to present Bobbi Woods’ first exhibition in Denver, Educated Guess, featuring works in our Project Room that present a survey of new and recent examples of her practice of obscuring and manipulating American film promotional posters.

Through her intervention of tearing, folding, and applying perfume and spray paint to the surface of these works, Woods breathes new meaning into objects that have outlived their intended purpose as ephemeral collateral meant to inundate the masses and then disappear. Woods utilizes the poster as medium as an additional subversive action, inserting herself into the ostensibly male-dominated world of advertising and entertainment. By strategically applying paint to obscure the origins of this imagery, she strips them of their original context, text, and image in order to challenge the viewer to devise her own narrative for what remains. The works presented in Educated Guess provide a refreshing escape from the endless inundation of imagery media, calling attention to a new relationship to ubiquitous representations of American culture.
